The Spider Guys
Full website build featuring complex back-end structure and multi-step quote form to qualify leads before the first phone call.
Overview
The Spider Guys are a Windsor-based pest control company serving Windsor-Essex and surrounding communities. In 2025 they were named Best Pest Control in Windsor by the Consumer Choice Award.
They needed a website that would:
- Communicate what makes them different — a subscription model, a satisfaction guarantee, and a “set it and forget it” approach most competitors don’t offer
- Make it easy for local homeowners to understand the services and request a quote
- Give the team full control over content so they could update it without a developer
- Scale to support a growing operation across multiple technicians and service areas
Back-End Architecture
The back end is structured around re-usable components and six interlinked post types:
Services covers both pest-specific treatments and the broader Barrier Spray offerings. Each service page can be independently managed, with its own content, FAQ associations, and coverage linkage.
Coverage maps the service area geographically — each coverage entry links to items for available services, common pests, staff, vehicles, etc. in those areas.
Staff tracks people, vehicles, and roles, and ties into Coverage so that each area can surface the technicians who serve it.
Pests is a structured pest database — currently in development, but structured to support a full reference section. Each entry holds pest-specific information that can be cross-referenced across the website.
FAQs can be associated with a service, a pest entry, a coverage area, or shown globally. The same answer doesn’t have to be re-entered for each context it appears in.
Reviews are pulled automatically into their own post type via an Apify script that syncs from Google, rather than relying on embeds or widgets. Reviews are tagged by pest types mentioned.
All content on the site relating to those items is pulled directly from the post type, allowing a streamlined content flow with a single source of truth.
Quote Form
One of the most impactful additions to the site was a new intake system including a custom multi-step quote form, built to replace the generic contact form that was previously the only way to get in touch.
The form opens as a modal and walks visitors through three focused steps:
Step 1 — Property. The customer selects their property type (Residential or Commercial), home type, property size, and lot/yard size.
Step 2 — Pests. The customer identifies where they’re encountering pests — split into Indoor and Outdoor categories and read from the Pests post type.
Step 3 — Contact. Customer details along with preferred call time and preferred update method (so the team knows how the customer wants to be reached).
Technical Highlights
- Custom multi-step quote form — three-step modal collecting property details, pest selection, and contact preferences before a single phone call is made
- Advanced back-end structure with relational fields connecting services, coverage areas, staff, pests, and FAQs into a full
- High Performance with PageSpeed scores in the high 90s for mobile and desktop — except on pages with reviews because of Google avatar hotlinking (to be fixed)
- Automated review ingestion via Apify script syncing Google reviews into a native WordPress post type that’s referenced by Elementor loops.
- Branded Admin theme featuring brand colours and custom icons to help the client feel at home. Thrown in free of charge but loved.
- Full CMS control post-handoff with no developer dependency for content updates, only actual development.
Outcome
The new intake system led to over 500 new successful leads in the first month alone and the site’s improved performance passively contributed to a rise in search ranking.
The back-end architecture means the content can grow with the business: new service areas, additional staff, expanded pest coverage, and an ever-growing library of pest details can all be managed from one place by the client.
